Judy Collins - wow - where do you start? I grew up listening to this woman and always thought she was way cool but nothing prepared for me meeting her. Words just can't do justice to her awesomeness. She is just so on it, in every way. She's been through the mill and has come through with some of the most refreshing attitudes to life you'll ever encounter. Judy is an artist and a healer. She's got something for all of us, of that there's no doubt.
A very interesting encounter with an artist who prides herself on her honesty. You can hear the hesitation in her voice when I ask Martha about optimism and a few moments later the reason why is revealed. Why you can't see is the beautiful surroundings of this interview - the vestry at St Patricks Cathedral in Dublin. Thanks to Temple Bar Tradfest for setting this interview up.
There are few people you'll ever encounter as interesting as Shirley Collins. The audio recording does not pick up the sound of my jaw dropping at various times throughout this interview. Immerse yourself in Shirley's infectious dedication to folk songs, her tales of WWII and combatting adversity to sing again after over 30 years away from the mike. Enjoy the time spent in her company:
Anna Mitchell visited Born Optimistic HQ as she gears up for the release of her second album. Her music encompasses many styles united by a direct lyrical style which doesn't shy away from taking potshots. As was discovered during this interview, Anna gets it all out in her songs, which allows her a carefree 'real' life. An intriguing and informative insight into the mind of the most important Irish artists making records today. Check out her music, videos and tour dates at annamitchellmusic.com
